Revolution Software has announced that with The Broken Sword – the Serpent’s Curse Adventure Kickstarter project meeting most of their goals, they will greenlight Beneath a Steel Sky 2.
Develop broke the news earlier today:
We’re delighted by the recent level of interest in a sequel to Beneath a Steel Sky and are currently discussing design ideas for this project which we plan to go into development following the release of Broken Sword – The Serpent’s Curse.”
The new Broken Sword game, and Beneath a Steel Sky 2, will be released for Mac OS X, alongside Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS, with the Broken Sword game coming out sometime in 2013, with Beneath a Steel Sky 2 following. Broken Sword – the Serpent’s Curse Adventure is I believe the fifth in a popular series of Broken Sword adventure games stretching back to the mid 1990s. It’s a very unique genre and style, and this is one of those things that Kickstarter appears to be good at cultivating, something that some of the larger mainstream publishers are not willing to back.
Revolution was pleased, easily exceeding the original goal:
A staggering 14,032 backers contributed an astonishing $771,561 – with PayPal this smashed through $800,000 – more than double the original target. We really look forward to working with you – thank you for allowing us to write this game in a totally new way. Thank you for joining the adventure.

I loved Beneath a Steel Sky (and it featured Dave Gibbons of Watchmen fame). If you are curious about the original Beneath a Steel Sky, you can find it for free through GOG.com or the Revolution Software site.
