Several anticipated Mac OS X games hit the Apple Mac App Store today, including Deus Ex Human Revolution (the Ultimate Edition), Bastion (pictured above), Dungeon Crawlers, Azkend 2: The World Beneath, and OOTP Baseball 13. Cut the Rope for Mac and Mahjong Elements HDX received large updates.
Earlier today I put together a fairly comprehensive look at Deus Ex: Human Revolution Ultimate Edition and you can read that article for more information (plus the requirements, which are hefty!)
Other “New and Noteworthy” games include:
Bastion (Bastion – Warner Bros. – Mac App Store – $14.99)
Where do I begin with Bastion. You can’t ignore the fact that it’s a Warner Brothers title. That’s going to attract attention right away. It is an action-RPG game with “more than 40 lush hand-painted environments” that are focused on the “Calamity” catastrophe that changed the world. It’s a little pricey at $14.99, but I will be covering it in the near future (a review is forthcoming). Roleplaying games can be really hit-or-miss these days. The artwork interests me, that and I’ve heard it’s a fairly big-budget game. It does weigh in at around 1 GB and requires Mac OS X 10.6 or later.
Dungeon Crawlers
Dungeon Crawlers is a port of the iOS Dungeon Crawlers, a 3D “tactical RPG” by Ayopa Games LLC / Drowning Monkeys LLC. You take a team of Dungeon Crawlers through dungeons and caves. It has a cartoon-like design, and has a lot of humor/comedy built into it. It requires Mac OS X 10.6.6. I’ll be talking about Dungeon Crawlers more in depth in the near future.
Azkend 2: The World Beneath (Azkend 2: The World Beneath – 10tons Ltd – Mac App Store – $6.99)
Azkend 2: The World Beneath is an adventure and puzzle game, with Match-3 gameplay. It’s a port of a popular iOS game (it received a 4/4 on SlideToPlay). Normally I’m not a Match-3 type of gamer, but I think I might pick up a copy of this and review it, as I’m a sucker for anything Jules Verne, plus it looks good. Azkend 2 requires Mac OS X 10.6 or later.
OOTP Baseball 13 (OOTP Baseball 18 – Out of the Park Developments – Mac App Store – $19.99 – updated Nov 2017)
OOTP Baseball 13 (Out of the Park Baseball 13) from Out of the Park Developments GmbH & Co is a baseball management simulator that is pretty breathtaking in its scope – you can play through Major League teams/seasons with the full 2012 rosters (with minor leagues), create baseball leagues across continents, and even create a historical league with actual players from between 1871 – 2011. There is also an online mode as well to play against other teams. OOTP 13 features the 2012 opening day roster, a “Real Time Simulator mode”, a “Random Debut Historical League mode”, storylines, a redesigned interface, and other improvements and additions (the developer claims 100+ new features and improvements). It is a cross-platform game (Linux and Windows as well). Requires a Mac OS X 10.5 and an Intel processor.
Updates
Major titles updated include Mahjong Elements HDX 1.6 and Cut the Rope 1.1 for Mac.
There were others, but these were the ones listed in Apple’s Mac App Store “New and Noteworthy” that are making their first appearance in the Mac App Store, or that received major updates. As always, feel free to contact us with any new games or major updates you think we should be posting about. We do not cover any and all games – we try to focus on games that either interest us, or that we think are significant releases in the Mac gaming world.
